We are happy to announce a new member of the team here at EDIFICOM.
Mathieu Besson joins us after 4 years at Apple Switzerland as developer of Suisse romande’s Education market. Before that spending 5 years as information system FileMaker developer at Haute Ecole Pédagogique Vaud and 4 years as founder and CEO of Pomme A, a very successful Mac shop in Lausanne created in 1997, before the first iMac launched. In Mathieu’s blood there must be some apple juice…
He brings his extensive knowledge of the education market and projects, in both public and private sectors, and believes that integration of technology is at a tipping point with ultra-mobile tablets and smartphones deeply transforming our 30-year old habits. “Ardoises” and smartphones are there for good, and certainly for the best.
We are all very happy to have Mathieu join us and are looking forward to working with him as EDIFICOM continues to expand, both in size and skillsets. He can contacted via email (Mathieu.Besson@edificom.ch) or phone (021 313 23 13).
Welcome to the team Mathieu!!

If you were at the HiMSS11 and stopped by booth #2979 you already know about this. If not, you should know that in late February, Meru Networks had some impressive news. Teaming with Voalte, a software communications solution, Meru was selected to provide wireless coverage for the Sarasota Memorial Health Care System (SMHCS).
SMHCS nursing staff needed a solution for communication difficulties with colleagues at their point-of-care and the hospital needed a reliable and predictable voice handset solution. With an 806-bed facility, one can imagine seamless and efficient communication is a necessity.
The old system resulted in an extreme amount of overhead pages per day. With the new collaboration, Meru was able to deploy a unified communications platform that would connect nurses and other team members using Apple iPhones. In the areas where the Meru/Voalte solution was implemented, users saw an 80% reduction in overhead pages.
“Healthcare has among the most demanding requirements for a wireless network. Wireless technology has already transformed health care around the world, but its potential is much greater”, said John Gallagher, senior director, solutions marketing, Meru Networks. ”Wireless technology today drives down health care costs, eases the burden on caregivers and enables new forms of examination and treatment. Meru helps doctors, nurses and hospitals accelerate that transformation, improving patient care while minimizing the risk, time and cost found with other wireless solutions. Meru’s virtualized WLAN meet the needs of health care, with a converged network that delivers industry-leading performance for voice calls, patient telemetry and location tracking.”
Edifice Communications is a Pinnacle partner for Meru , and has vast implementation experience in different environments and with different application requirements. Having worked with Iomega products more and more over the last few years, we are very happy to be recognized as “Premier Partners” by Iomega. In our experience, both internally and with clients, we have found the Iomega storage devices to reliable, feature-packed and set at a great price-point. We’ve been using various models from the “StorCenter” range across many different types of projects:
- ix12-300r – Taking up to 12 disks of either 1TB or 2TB this can really scale. With dual PSU, 4 NICs, multiple options for RAID, LACP/port binding…this is a superb choice for enterprise storage that can grow with the company. As with all the StorCenter products it is VMware certified and comes with the choice of using NFS or iSCSI.
- ix4-200d – This smaller version takes up to 4 disks, has 2 NICs and is perfect as a backup target, NAS storage, or acting as a security camera server for up to 5 Axis cameras. With Rsync included, this device can easily replicate itself also, giving you off-site mirroring of your data at a really low cost.
There are plenty of other great Iomega products, these are just a few of our favourites. For the full list see the Iomega site or contact us to find out how we can help you choose the right product for you.

Edifice Communications passed another milestone recently as we celebrated our 7th year since our inception in March 2004. In some ways, much has changed since our early days; we have much more diversity in our projects now, we have continued to increase the number of staff, the size of projects we work on has grown massively… and in other ways many things have stayed the same; we are still very much solution-focused and work very closely both with clients and our partners, we still look for innovative solutions that match our clients needs and all of our projects are based on our solid understanding of networks and IP.
During our 7 years in business, we have had the pleasure to work with many different clients, and we are very proud to be able to say that our first clients are still clients today. We’d like to take this opportunity to say “Thank You” to all our our clients and their continued loyalty and faith in us. We look forward to another 7 years, providing reliable and sustainable solutions for our clients, existing and new.

 Innovaphone IP232 phone
German VoIP pioneer Innovaphone recently announced the release of a few new phones. The IP222 and IP232, pictured on the right, sport state-of-the-art design with innovative tech specs as well.
Along with the design enhancements, Innovaphone has also implemented the Adaptive Multi-Rate Wideband (AMR-WB) voice codec, G.722.2, allowing voice quality to be adapted dynamically to the available bandwidth.
The new phones also utilize the Green IT standard, Energy Efficient Ethernet or 802.3az, allowing for idling the power draw over Ethernet in periods of inactivity. A low-power-idle signal is sent regularly to refresh the sleep mode. While the data link is always operational, the power draw is used only when needed.
Innovaphone’s in-house development department topped the new phones off with a color display, touch screen, traditional function keys and black or white color schemes. Functional and good looking.
The new phones were successfully presented at the CeBIT show in Hannover, Germany, from 1-5 March, 2011.

If there is an ideal setting for a product proving ground, health care might be it. Not only are customer satisfaction and business operations on the line (no pun intended), but patient well-being depends greatly on communication. If communication lines fail, there are grand consequences.
 Ascom i62 Handset
A recent endorsement by Ascom for use of Meru Networks AP 300 series wireless access points in conjunction with its revolutionary i62 phone in “deployment proven” scenarios shows the value of Meru as a reliable solution for your wireless needs.
The Ascom i62 is the latest generation of voice over Wi-Fi handsets (VoWiFi). Since its release in the fall of 2010, Meru has seen significant adoption of the phone within its customer base.
This relationship allows Meru to expand its existing mobility solution base for health care, including messaging alerts, telemetry, real-time locating systems and computerized physician order entry to further extend mobile voice reliability.
Edifice Communications is a Pinnacle partner for Meru , and has vast implementation experience in different environments and with different application requirements. Edificom is proud to see this case study presented by innovaphone regarding our project to modernize The Leysin American School’s (LAS) telephony system. As mentioned in the case study, Edificom was tasked to update LAS’s traditional PBX system in order to meet its growing needs, reduce costs and provide higher functionality.
The innovaphone solution allowed for easier and less costly connections between the schools network of 15 buildings. While the old solution relied on leased PSTN lines (Public Switched Telephone Network), the new VoIP system utilitzed LAS’s existing data network. The result was a cost savings along with increased simplicity.
In addition, LAS reported staff members being very happy with the added functionality innovaphone provided. Features such as caller ID, call logs and the integrated directory all combined to improve the experience for LAS staff.
The future has a lot to offer. As LAS dorm room fixed lines become less utilized due to the ubiquity of mobile phones among students, an opportunity emerges to integrate the mobile devices into the innovaphone infrastructure. The ability to contact someone on either phone with one number presents a valuable solution to management, staff and students.
